Arduino Controlled Electro-Pneumatics Crane

About the project

As we all know different branches existing in the engineering. Today we are in an era of fusion of such branches like mechanical combined with electronics is mechatronics, linkages with electronics lead to robots and so on. Similarly, there is another interesting type fusion of such of two different branches i.e. electronics and pneumatics.

Pneumatic is that branch of engineering which uses gas or pressurized air as a tool to produce work output. Systems and circuits using pneumatic power are pneumatic systems or pneumatic circuits and these systems generally use compressed air or compressed inert gas. There are different components used in controlling the pneumatic systems like actuators, electric motors, solenoid valves depending on the type of operation like manual or automatic operation.

Electronics is that discipline of engineering which deals with the development and application of the flow of electrons in different mediums. Electronics branch generally deals with electric circuits which are embedded with active electrical components, passive electrical components, and semiconductors depending on the nature of work output & application.

The electro-pneumatic system is a system which uses pressurized air for working but the operational features are controlled by electronics. Since when we talk about electronics, the best suitable artificial brain used in prototyping is Arduino, a microcontroller.

Arduino controlled electro-pneumatic crane is a fusion of electronics and pneumatic technologies. In this technology, components like Arduino, breadboard/shield, TM display, pressure valves, pneumatic actuators, dc motors, guideways, crane structure, a compressor to supply pressurized air.

The complete operation is controlled by pneumatic circuits and programming of Arduino. Basically, the complete operational, componential features of the project are coded in a hex format and uploaded to the microcontroller in the Arduino. Based on the coded knowledge the Arduino takes care of the operation of the crane, pressure inputs, working of motors and actuators.
