Solar Panel Belt Conveyor

As the conventional energy sources are depleting day by day, it is very essential to search for alternative energy sources. Nowadays belt conveyor is playing a key role in material handling application, they are used to carry materials from one end to another end. Based on the size, nature of the material, different conveyors are being used.

After solar, wind energy is the most prominent alternative source of energy, which is also an indirect form of solar energy, but the wind energy is not sufficient to generate the power without wind. During the spring seasons, wind energy attains the maximum power in other time it remains still.

But solar energy is efficient to implement when compared to the wind energy mills, so the cost of implementation is less. People know the implementations of solar energy by the usage of Solar Heater, Solar Light, even though solar energy power generation in their homes.

In this concept the IR Sensor is used to detect the object, material on the conveyor. The solar panel power is stored on the battery. The battery supplies the power to the controller and the conveyor motor.

You need Microcontroller 8051 family to control the conveyor ON and OFF.

Project Description:

  1. AT89S52: The AT89S52 is a low power, high performance CMOS 8-bit microcontroller with 8k bytes of in-system programmable flash memory. This is a powerful microcontroller which provides high flexibility and cost-effective solution to many embedded control applications. It has the following standard features: 8K bytes of flash, 256 bytes of RAM, 32 I/O lines, watchdog timer, 2 data pointers, 3 16-bit timers/counters, on-chip oscillator and clock circuitry.
  2. Infrared Sensor: An infrared sensor is an electronic instrument which is used to sense certain characteristics of its surroundings by either emitting and or detecting infrared radiation. Infrared sensors are also capable of measuring the heat being emitted by an object and detecting motion.
  3. Infrared waves are not visible to the human eyes, the electromagnetic spectrum, and infrared radiation can be found between the visible and microwave regions. The infrared waves typically have wavelengths between 0.75 and 1000.

  4. Battery: It consisting of one or more number cells, in which is converted into electrical it uses as a power source
  5. DC Motor: This is an electric machines which converts electrical energy to mechanical energy. It voltages is 12v DC Supply.
  6. Solar Panel: Solar panel or Photovoltaic cell is an electrical device that convert the energy of light directly into electricity by the photovoltaic effect, which is a physical and chemical phenomenon. It is a form of photoelectric cell, defined as a device whose electrical characteristic, such as current, voltage, or resistance, vary when exposed to light. Individual solar cell devices can be combined known as solar panels.

Project Implementation:

  1. Solar panel has 2 terminal one is Positive and another one is Negative and takes a Diode solder to the positive (+) terminal of the solar panel. So the back reference voltage from the battery is given to the solar diode to prevent it, while only in forward direction.
  2. Take the Infrared sensor connect to the input port of the microcontroller. Connect the IR sensor terminal to 5v DC, GND, and signal pin to the controller.
  3. Take the relay connect the power is 5v DC and the common terminal the power of the 12v DC voltage to the motor. The DC Motor is connected to the relay.
  4. You need to program as follows when the IR sensor senses mean the relay trips from is a position the motor gets power so now motor runs. If no object or materials the relay off state no power to the motor in OFF condition.

Software requirements:

  1. Keil Uvision 3: Keil Software makes C compilers, macro assemblers, real-time kernels, debuggers, simulators, integrated environments and evaluation boards for the 8051, 251, ARM and XC16x/C16x/ST10 microcontroller families
  2. Programming language: Embedded C Language
