The new approach in this is must be needed, to solve that issue bladeless vortex turbine were introduced and the simple concept and construction of the turbine generate the energy of higher levels as compared to Conventional Wind turbines. The working principle of energy production was derived from Vortex Street Effect. This effect is produced from lateral forces of the wind on any fixed object immersed in a laminar flow but we should be careful because when the forces of wind increase the body might go into resonance and the structure might collapse. The idea of this unique kind of wind turbines emerged in 2002 when David Yanez(co-founder of a vortex bladeless company) saw a video of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge disaster which oscillated to resonance and was shattered due to the strong wind which led to the idea of bladeless vortex turbines. This new game-changing technology is being so popular because it easily overcomes the issues related with traditional wind turbines such as maintenance, noise, planting cost and logistics whereas the vortex wind turbine gives a cheaper alternative with much better efficiency and of a long life cycle compared to conventional wind turbines.

Project Requirements:

The Construction of this project is very simple it consists of following components:

  • Centre Base: It is a structure made out of rigid iron structure. It should be capable of tolerating the mechanical stresses that will be acting on the body of the turbine.

  • Springs: On top of the center base we will mount a spring which should deflect back to its original position. It will be connected to mast.
  • Mast: It is a conical shape rigid structure which will oscillate when lateral forces by wind will act on it. It is very light and due to its lights weight it increases the oscillation and gives more flexibility to the spring to come back to its original position.
  • Thread: It is used to convert linear motion of the mast to linear motion of the mast to rotational motion of the generator.
  • Generator: Generator is used to convert that rotational motion to electric current.
  • Charging Circuit and Battery: Based on the output requirement the power of battery and circuit should be chosen.

Project Description:

    The energy conversion starts form linear oscillation of the mast due to wind to rotational motion of the generators. The vortex wind turbines works on the principle that when the wind hits the column mast, it starts to vibrate and this vibrational energy is converted to electrical energy (alternator power). The wind projected surface of the mast from one particular direction streamlines the flow of wind and departs to get sheared off. Here the mast is subjected to wind energy it oscillates due to the formation of vortices formed around the structure of the mast which is converted to rotational force for generation of electricity. We can also connect the lower end of the mast with the linear alternator directly. The construction of this system eliminates the frictional wear and tear due to which the maintenance cost is reduced by 53% compared to conventional wind turbine.
