How to use Bluetooth with MATLAB for wireless communication

Overview

Bluetooth is a wireless communication device used to transfer data from one device to another. It is the simplest way to transfer data using port addresses of the devices. Nowadays, Bluetooth is installed in every device and anyone uses it simply. Bluetooth with MATLAB is the new way of communicating efficiently between devices. We will use MATLAB on one side and Arduino on the other side.

In this MATLAB project, we will establish a secure connection between the different devices using these two tactics. Well, there are many ways to make the connection but we will see the simplest one.

Procedure

Stepwise instructions will make it easier to understand all this. Let’s have a look at how we will execute this project using Command Window.

  • Type in the code for the Arduino to read the data which is serially coming to the MATLAB.
  • Then the code for MATLAB is also done in the code window to establish the connection between them.
  • A LED bulb is also connected to show whether the connection has been properly established or not.

Now we will see how we will execute the project using the MATLAB GUI.

  • First, we need to create three graphical buttons in MATLAB to show turn on, turn off and connected indications.
  • Fire-up the command window and start GUIDE to create a blank GUI.
  • There are readymade buttons available on the GUIDE application to let you choose buttons. Under those buttons, required coding will be done for MATLAB-Arduino connection.
  • You can easily download the code also and execute the project properly.

MATLAB with Bluetooth can easily be connected with any other devices such as Simulink, Arduino, etc. This will open a whole new genre of connection between various devices irrespective their configuration. The proper connection is also to be maintained for no loss of data. MATLAB has become the new high performing language for technical computation.

Why MATLAB?

MATLAB has emerged as the new high-performance computing language which is capable of integration of computation and visualization. This language makes the programming easy and it benefits in several ways such as:-

  • Algorithm development
  • Modelling, Simulation
  • Data Analysis
  • Application of development
  • Graphical manipulation

MATLAB is used in wireless Bluetooth connection to ensure proper connection between various devices. Simulink is also used with MATLAB to establish a connection between devices.

Conclusion

In this MATLAB project, we will learn to establish a communicating path using Bluetooth and MATLAB between the devices. We will learn many aspects related to the MATLAB language to understand the project fully. The project requires some prior knowledge about networking and MATLAB basics. The new age is developing through time and we need to learn modern languages to solve modern problems in the field of Computer science. MATLAB is one such language which can give you a boost to learn and experience about other relevant topics.
