Outcome: PRODUCTION OF BIO-BUTANOL Description: The main source of energy in the world is the fossil resources (natural gas,petroleum). Overuse has led to the depletion of these resources and their combustion has led to global warming.Bio-fuel which is renewable, efficient and safer to use is a safe alternative developed to combat this issue. Renewable and abundantly found biomass obtained as agricultural commodities can be used for the production of biofuels such as ethanol, butanol etc, which is safer to the environment. Biomass mainly consist lignin, pectin, hemicelluloses, cellulose etc which are pretreated and broken down to sugars and then fermented to produce ABE(Acetone:Butanol:Ethanol). Biofuels minimizes pollution and food security problems due to their heterogeneous chemical elemental composition. Butanol has many interesting features which makes it a good biofuel. They have low vapour pressure, they blend easily with gasoline/ diesel at any fraction due to its dense nature etc.
