Outcome: To produce chitooligosaccharide based hydrogelof wound dressing pad ,having the controlled release of drugs
Description: This project proposal is to develop a low cost Chitooligosaccharide (COS) based Hydrogel of wound dressing pad (COSPad), having controlled release of drugs without residual toxicity. This wound dressing pad shall provide hydration to wounds, offer an infection barrier with the reduced need for frequent changes. It may also absorb exudates from wound sites and provides comfortability during dressing. The matrix of COSPad is obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis of chitin which is a byproduct of marine food processing industries in Kerala. Freeze thawing technique is to be adopted for the preparation of COSPad. Temperature and thaw cycle are to be standardized in the proposed COSPad for regulating the release of drug.
