Good Automation based IEEE projects:1. Smart Irrigation System using IoT:
With the introduction of modern civilisation, we are readily losing lots of natural resources. This poses a huge threat in the modern farming. Using this particular IOT project you can achieve an efficient solution to this problem.
The device uses a soil moisture sensor which detects the moisture content of the soil and sends the data to the Arduino. The Arduino then processes the data, and switches on/off the water pump accordingly till the moisture content in the soil reaches its required value. The data collected is sent to the cloud server using ESP-8266 Wi-Fi module for storage and analysis.
Building this project, you will learn more about Arduino programming, Virtuino App development and Automation with IoT and its applications.

The automation project that you develop will have a LDR sensor (Light Dependant Resistor) that detect the intensity of light real-time. Here the sensor detects the intensity of sunlight and sends the data to the microcontroller to perform various actuations. Depending on the threshold value of sunlight intensity that you set, the system automatically switches On/Off the street light. The data that is collected will also be sent to the cloud for storage and analysis.
This project is the solution to a dangerous, real-life problem. Accident risks at unattended railway crossing is very high and every year thousands of lives are lost due to this carelessness.
In this project you will build a model of an automated railway crossing to understand embedded sensors and their applications. In the model the sensors detect train arrival and departure and send appropriate signals to microcontroller. The microcontroller is programmed to operate motorized railway gates as per sensor input.
IR sensors are used in this project to detect the train activity at some proximity distance. Based on the sensor value, you can program the system to control the railway gates automatically. This project helps you understand the concept of automation from very basic. And this is a very good project for you to get started with automation.

This course helps you make your first step in that direction. In this project you will develop a Home Automation System using Bluetooth technology. Using this system, you will be able to control home appliances with your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone and a special Android application. The system is fitted with a Bluetooth module, microcontroller and relay switches to automatically control the appliances.
You will also learn more about 8051 architecture & its programming and Bluetooth communications.
This IoT project gives an innovative solution to the difficulties of water management. With the increase of urbanisation, it is extremely difficult to efficiently manage water consumption. That is where this device comes to play.
In this project you can build a device that uses water flow sensor to detect the water flow within the pipe and then it sends the water consumption data to the microcontroller/ Arduino. The Arduino, with the help of a Wi-Fi module, sends the data to the cloud. The data can be accessed anytime, anywhere for analysis purpose and efficient water consumption.
This device helps secure our homes and offices from theft using Raspberry Pi. It uses image processing on live video to detect theft using motion. It also highlights the area where the theft occurs.
It allows the user to view the theft details and saving the video of the theft in a USB drive. In this system a camera along with a circuit with LCD display IR for night vision and USB drive for storage is used. As soon as camera detects motion, the system uses image processing to identify the exact area of motion occurrence and then highlights it accordingly. The system now transmits the images of the occurrence over IOT to be viewed by the user online.
This innovative system does not need users to click selfies, it automatically starts taking selfies and saves it in their pen drive using face recognition technique. It consists of Raspberry Pi based system with a camera as well as speaker. LED is interfaced through a PCB board to deliver this. The Raspberry Pi is used to detect human faces near the selfie booth. It then instructs the camera to start taking selfies at 2 seconds intervals until user is standing in front of it. It allows user to attach a pen drive before starting image capture and saves all selfies in it.
Hope you got some good information about the latest IEEE based project topics on automation technologies.
Why it is important to refer IEEE project topics?
IEEE projects list is one of the important tool that can help you select a good automation based project topic.
IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), is the world’s largest technical professional society dedicated to research about the advancing technologies and innovations happening across the globe. The society is designed to help professionals in the field of electric, electronic and computing fields.
By referring the IEEE Electrical Engineering (EEE) projects list, you can get a pretty good idea about the trending technological topics, advanced implementation methodologies and processes. From them, you can shortlist a list of topics which suits your requirement and plan accordingly along with your team members.
Now let us understand what automation is and how it impacts the future of consumer devices.
What is an Automation Project?
Automation is derived from the word “automatic”, and as the name suggests it is the technique of making a device, a process, or a system operate automatically. Automation is a technology through which a procedure is executed with minimum human involvement. And any project that involves the concepts and applications of this discipline can be called an Automation Project.
Automation projects also include the concept of IoT. The Internet of Things, or IoT is a network or ecosystem of interrelated ‘things’ that interact and exchange data amongst one another. The ‘thing’ may refer to computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects and even people. Yes, you read that right. Even people can be part of IoT. A person connected to a heart monitor or life support is a real life example. It enables devices to interact among one another, share data and give output without manual intervention.
What are some examples of Automation?
Thermostat – A programmable thermostat is a great example of automation. The device is based on a machine learning algorithm i.e., it learns your family’s routines and will automatically adjust the temperature based on when you’re home or away, awake or asleep. It makes the house more efficient and helps save money on heating and cooling bills and even conserve energy. It is electronic, programmable, and self-learning Wi-Fi-enabled thermostat.
Coffee Makers – All the coffee lovers know how their day doesn’t start without a cup of coffee. So coffeemaker companies responded, programmable coffeemakers. One can set the time for the coffee to start brewing, so you can get up from bed to a hot cup of coffee.
Bill Pay – This is a great addition to banks, credit cards, utility companies and more. Using this automatic bill pay, late payments will now become a thing of the past.
Why should you choose an Automation project topic?
Automation is necessary and advanced technologies related to it are being adapted by many companies. Automation is the one of the latest trending technologies in many fields especially in industries like manufacturing, control systems, mining, etc. The companies that can adapt, innovate and utilize global resources will generate significant growth and success. Automation will soon become a necessity for all these industries.
Many fields like robotics, mechatronics, control systems, electronics, wireless, laser technology, automotive motors are dependent on Automation. And therefore, learning more about this topic is very necessary for a good job placement in the future.
And what better way to gain knowledge than building projects based on it?
Building projects helps you burst the bubble of theoretical knowledge and introduces you to the practical world. Not only that, you come out of your comfort zone and it will help you push your boundaries. It will broaden your knowledge in tenfold as compared to reading a paper online.
Important points to be noted while building an Automation project:
Before jumping into making projects, you should have a clear idea of exactly what you're building. Do thorough research before starting to build the project. This will save you a lot of time and will help to avoid complications later.
Secondly, make sure you have proper guidance before buying a kit, especially if you’re new to building projects. It stops you from making errors like short-circuiting the boards or damaging the modules. It will also significantly reduce the cost of building the projects.
One of the most important things you should be careful about is the price of the hardware used in your project. It may vary from shop to shop. It is crucial to find the right store that is not only cost effective but also delivers quality products. Initially, you can search online regarding the price of the components than going physically to shops to avoid any discrepancies. Always resort to reliable firms who have a strong command on this domain.
For instance, the kits that are sent from Skyfi Labs are well tested and approved for quality project building. Buying such kits will not only save money for you but also help you to build projects without losing time.
