A turbine converts the kinetic energy of falling water into mechanical energy. Then a generator converts the mechanical energy from the turbine into electrical energy. The most important advantage of hydropower is that it is green energy, which means that no air or water pollutants are produced, also no greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide are produced which makes this source of energy environment-friendly. It prevents us from the danger of global warming.

Project Requirements:

The project will require a basic knowledge of working of Hydroelectric Systems and basic knowledge of mathematical modeling which will be very useful for the project because the project will be model-based approach in which later with the help of transfer functions or constants we can predict the flow of energy or we can say the time at which the energy generation can be maximum and less so a good understanding of tuning of a Mathematical system is quite necessary.

Project Implementation:

  • Here in the hydroelectric system water flows within a river from a higher geodesic site to a lower geodesic site due to gravity. So, the first thing we will do is the identification of the resulting energy differences of the outflowing water using the constant and friction-free flow with incompressibility. This can be achieved by using the Bernoulli’s equation applied in such conditions.

  • We have to calculate the dynamic height from the equation. Next step will be to determine the power of the water supply by volume related flow rate and usable head. Once the power of the supply is determined, we use the two ends of the river to determine the water theoretical power.
  • In the turbine, the pressure energy is converted into mechanical energy at the turbine shaft the same water power model can be introduced in a Matlab/Simulink model of the hydroelectric system. Once the model is ready to design a power storage module in Matlab for the storage data.
  • After preparing the mathematical model of each component of the system we have to create a link between them and test them at different circumstances to simulate a real hydroenergy system.
