You will use Raspberry Pi 3 as the brain of the system. The web camera will give continuous video surveillance. The system will have the ability to detect dirt or waste. You will use some machine learning algorithms related to video processing.

Project Description:

Raspberry Pi 3: It is a third-generation, single-board computer. It contains a 64 bit quad-core processor. It runs on a clock speed of 1.5 Ghz. An external micro SD card provides memory to Raspberry Pi. You can give instructions using the Raspbian OS.

Raspbian OS: It is similar to Windows or Ubuntu OS. You can code the Raspberry Pi using Python in the Raspbian OS. It is user-friendly and allows multi-tasking.

High Torque Servo Motors: It allows a rotation of 180 degrees. Three or more servo motors are attached using mechanical parts. Using this, the robotic arm can move in all three dimensions.

Web Camera: It will act as the eyes of the robotic arm. The system will continuously process the video to detect dirt.

Python: You can give instructions to Raspberry Pi using Python. You will use OpenCV library for image and video processing.

Chassis: You have to build a chassis on which you will mount the robotic arm. It should be able to move in all the directions.

Video processing algorithms: You will use machine learning to detect dirt or waste.

Broom stick/Mop: You have to attach it to the functional end of the robotic arm. It will do the cleaning.

Project implementation:

  1. First you have to fabricate a strong chassis. Attach motors and a motor driver for it to move.
  2. Fabricate the robotic arm using high torque servo motors, clamps, bearings, screws and nuts.
  3. Mount the robotic arm on the chassis. Mount the camera on a pedestal.
  4. Attach appropriate cleaning material onto the functional end of robotic arm.
  5. Type the code for video processing to detect the dirt or waste.
  6. Type the code for moving the motors on chassis for proper movement of system.
  7. Type the code for moving the robotic arm. Try out different codes to find an efficient method of cleaning.
  8. Run the code and get you room cleaned.
