Human Detection Robot using IR sensors

This project involves building a robot that uses PIR (passive infra-red) sensors to detect the human presence. It makes use of the PIR sensor application of sensing the infra-red rays that emits when heat is generated from the human body. The application of this project varies from rescue operations to finding out the capacity of humans at a place.

The robot will be embedded with a RF module (Radio Frequency module) through which the robot can be controlled using your computer. The transmitter will be attached to the robot and the receiver will be connected to the computer and commands can be given by entering specific letters in the keyboard. Like entering ‘F’ will make the robot to move forward and ‘B’ will make the robot to move backward etc. While the robot is in motion and detects any human being with the help of the PIR sensor then the robot will stop moving and turns on the buzzer.

For the robot’s human detection you need to program the arduino microcontroller accordingly. You need to program the robot in such a way that whenever a value (heat signature) from a human being is detected through PIR sensor, the robot should stop its motion and turn on the buzzer.

Project Description:

  1. Arduino Uno: The digital and analog input/output pins equipped in the board can be interfaced to various expansion boards and other circuits. Serial communication interface is a feature in this board, including USB which will be used to load the programs from computer.
  2. Voltage regulator: It is used to maintain a constant voltage level and also used for regulating AC or DC voltages. A voltage regulator contain negative feed-forward design or it may also contain negative feedback control loops.
  3. RF Module: The RF (radio frequency) module will have 2 units which acts as the transmitter and receiver. It receives the signals from the user and controls the actuation of the robot accordingly.
  4. PIR Sensor: It is capable of sensing motion of the human and therefore it is also called as a motion sensor. Whenever a human pass through this sensor it will automatically sense the motion through IR radiation and send the data to the microcontroller.

Project Implementation:

  1. A wireless camera can also fitted onto the robot chassis to get the live video feed
  2. RF module used for providing communication between the robot and user
  3. Radio frequency signals can travel upto 200 ft and control the actuation of robot
  4. PIR sensor will sense the motion and send the data to the microcontroller to alert the user
  5. The PIR sensor will be able to detect the humans within a range of 12 feet
  6. Also the buzzer gets triggered whenever a motion is detected
  7. Arduino Uno (ATMEGA328) – receiver unit’s input and output are Radio frequency receiver and a buzzer respectively
  8. The IR sensors can also be placed at the sides to make the robot detect the obstacles and program it to avoid them, facilitating obstacle avoiding action
