Design and fabrication RC speedboat

The three main medium of transports are Land, Air and Water where this project is mainly focused on design parameter and fabricating the RC controlled Speedboat. As we know speedboats are the fastesr way to travel on water as they sail at comparatively higher speed than the conventional boats and ships. Hence the designing of boats plays an important role where the fluid dynamics is the major area to focus and optimize the design for less hydro-static drags.

As food and water is basic need of a human to survive same as with animals who needs the basic needs on time so that their health won't get effect even if you are not at your home or in the city.

A speedy sailing model will be very interesting to build by keeping all designing parameter in the consideration that will help you to understand the design requirement and optimization of not only the models also with the actual speed boat too.

Apart from the designing, you’ll be working on the electronics parts such as brushless DC motor to run the impeller to generate enough propelling force for the boat for a required speed. Also, you’ll be working with the RC mechanism fitted over the sailing model.

Overall it's a good exposure to learn the basic dynamics of the speedboats along with the electronics and the fabrication and part will make it even interesting and engaging.

Project Description:

Drag is an opposition force like friction between the solid surface and fluid molecules relative motion and which oppose to move the solid within the fluid hence to overcome this problem the design is very important to reduce the overall drag applying on the boat.

The most important parameter we consider while building such model is drag and thrust magnitude applied and produced respectively on the boat. Hence when we talk about the thrust produced in the boat which is nothing but the driving force for the boat understanding the Impellers and the working of it is very important.

The impeller is like a fan which sucks fluid on one side and drives in on other with the larger velocity and because of the force generated the reactive force drive the boat in opposite to the direction of fluid velocity.

Also, we will be using the servo motors to control the flaps or the control surfaces to basically controls the boat movement while sailing.

Project Implementation:

In this project, we will be solving design parameter for the design of the RC model to reduce the drag generated on the boat and optimize the overall performance of the boat. You’ll be calculating the design of impeller required for the model by solving few design parameter which will help us to select the impeller for the model for the minimal weight of the impeller. Also, you’ll be making a servo controlling flap mechanism for the boat to control the lateral movement of the speedboat.

Also with the RC mechanism is to control the boat by a transmitter and receiver mechanism you’ll be powering the boat with the LI-Po battery and powering the DC motor to run the impeller hence we are using a DC supply a ESC or electronic speed controller will be required in between to battery and the motor for the continuous running.

  1. Brushless DC motor: It’s a continuous type of motor which can run at a higher RPM when the desired voltage current is supplied.
  2. Electronic speed controller (ESC): It’s a device used to control the voltage input to the motor, also since its DC, it controls the polarization of motor too for continuous run.
  3. Servo motor: They are the non-discontinuous type of controllable motor which we can control the direction of rotation or speed of rotation.
  4. Li-Po battery: They are the power source as they store the electric energy in chemical form and supply when required.
  5. Transmitter:It's a remote controller which send the signal in form of radio waves.
  6. Receiver:It’s a component required to receives the radio signal sent by the transmitter through air.
