Garbage Monitoring System

In this world, waste is generated from every work we do. Statistics says that about 62 million tonnes of wastes are generated from urban cities.

These wastes generated from urban cities must be collected by the municipality of the city but due to some constraints this waste is not being collected on time.

If the garbage is not collected regularly, it becomes a good place for breeding of the houseflies and it will make the place hard to live because it will be comprising of materials which will start to decompose and dreadful smell will be covered all over the area.

The collection of garbage is failed sometimes due to the lack of general checking and also sometimes due to the laziness of the collectors. This project will be helpful to overcome these things. In this project, the ultrasonic sensor is placed on the bins to detect the level of garbage in the container and a buzzer is also used to notify the garbage levels. A Wi-Fi module is also connected to this setup and a web page is created so we can graphically know the quantity of the garbage in the containers.

Project description:

Arduino Uno: This is a board consists of a Microcontroller and it has all input and output pins by which we can connect the sensor and get the output from output digital pins. We can load the required program into the board using USB.

Wi-Fi Module: This Wi-Fi module is used because the Arduino doesn’t have any inbuilt wi-fi and to upload the data to the cloud.

Ultra-Sonic Sensor: This sensor is used to detect the garbage level.

Buzzer: This buzzer is a loudspeaker that produces the sound when electricity is passed through it.

Project Implementation:

  1. The ultrasonic sensor is placed on the garbage collecting containers.
  2. These sensors are connected to the Arduino UNO and it collects the data.
  3. A buzzer is connected to Arduino to notify when the garbage containers are full.
  4. The data is uploaded into the cloud for storage and analysis using a Wi-Fi module.
  5. A web page is created to show the level of garbage graphically.

Software Requirements:

  • You will be needing Arduino IDE software to write and upload the program to the Arduino Uno board.

Programming language: C, C++ (for programming Arduino) and HTML for creating a webpage.
